Sportsmanship

Sporting Staff: Mrs Michelle Murerekwa

Bishopslea prioritises sportmanship above all else. Our students learn to win with grace and lose with diginity, respecting their opponents and valuing the spirit of fairplay. Through victories and defeats alike, they emerge as athletes of integrity, emboding the true essence of sportsmanship on and off the field.

ECD to Grade 2 sportsmanship

We believe in nurturing the potential of every child from the earliest age. Through fun and engaging activities, we introduce students to the world of sport, laying the foundation for a lifetime of physical activity, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

In 1st term we work on our athletics program. Through playful games, obstacle courses, and relay races, they develop their agility, balance, and spatial awareness while building friendships and teamwork skills. They also participate in an Infants Sports Day at the end of the term. In 2nd term we work on our ball skills program, from basic hand-eye coordination exercises to gentle tossing and catching drills. We end the term with an Infants’ Ball skills day. In 3rd term we work on our swimming program, under the guidance of our experienced instructors. Pupils are involved in engaging activities and games, to help them build water confidence and improve their coordination. We end the season with an Infants’ Swimming Gala.

Towards the end of the term our houses compete against each other to show case which house has the top athletes in the school.

Field hockey is played in 2nd term under the guidance of our experienced coaches. Students learn the fundamentals of field hockey, from matering dribbling techniques to executing precise passes and powerful shots on goal. The school has an indoor turf field to give students the experience of playing on a different surface. Grades 3 – 7 play friendly games throughout the season, and also participate in hockey festivals.
