Welcome from the PTA 2010

We are extremely fortunate to have fifteen members on the PTA this year. It was quite overwhelming to receive so many nominations for the 2010 committee. A unanimous vote allowing all those nominated to join the PTA, means that we are able to enjoy an extremely broad based set of skills and, all for the benefit of the girls at Bishopslea School.

The ‘team’ have already shown how extremely dedicated and willing they are to contribute so much to the success of the PTA. A PTA member is not someone who just attends monthly meetings. They are expected, and give willingly, a sizeable chunk of their free time helping set up events which include organising food, bar services, entertainment and décor. There’s a lot that goes on before and after a function and it’s the sheer hard work of the team at these times which makes the events so successful. As current Chairperson of the PTA, I am not just lucky but very proud to have such dedicated members helping to create a superior environment for our girls at Bishopslea school, through the funds we aim to raise this year. And you know what…it’s such fun doing it too.

It’s very satisfying when we do raise funds for the school but in our book, it’s not just about money. We want to create events where the whole family can be entertained and our critical aim is for fun and value for money as well. Not only have the PTA scored another resounding success in putting on the Tooth Fairy for their annual movie night this term, but plans are in full swing for the Sponsored Walk at the end of June and for our annual Golf day at the end of July. Just over $5k was raised last term through the Valentines Ball, Bingo Night and cakes sales and it looks as though we are set to break records again this term. All the funds raised go towards realising the Headmaster’s wish list complied for the school, and this year is no exception.

We are always on the lookout for extra volunteers and if you, your spouse or even a grandparent are interested in helping out, even if it’s at one event and for one hour only...please get in touch with me as I would be delighted to hear from you. On a more serious note however, I would also like to sincerely thank you, the parents and friends of Bishopslea for your continued support and would welcome any ideas that you would like the PTA to consider, so again, please get in touch with me.

As I write, I am happy to report that my dynamic team are already busy coming up with ideas for next term and there really are some new and exciting events in the pipeline, so please watch out for the school newsletter as well as the PTA’s own...and of course the noticeboards.
