Bishopslea was founded in 1932 under the auspices of the Diocese of Zimbabwe and was called St Mary’s.

Initially, classes were held in a house in Baines Avenue, then moved to a house called Bishopslea in Montagu Avenue . The school moved to its current location in 1951.
